Beyond the Boards | Herbert Siguenza
Featuring Herbert Siguenza
Coming Thursday, June 11th on Beyond the Boards, San Jose Stage Artistic Director - Randall King sits down with Herbert Siguenza, a founding member of Culture Clash and current Playwright in Residence at San Diego Repertory Theatre. Their discussion centers around our current state of civil unrest amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the responsibility artists have in creating necessary systemic change. As a distinguished actor, playwright, and activist Mr. Siguenza brings a freshly optimistic perspective on the future of our nation and industry with unique insight into our conversations focused around the “New American Theatre”.
In 2014, as part of our 32nd Season, San Jose Stage Company, in association with San Diego Repertory, presented A Weekend with Pablo Picasso, written by and performed by Herbert Siguenza. First workshopped at San Diego Rep, Picasso has gone on to receive productions in Houston, Los Angeles, Denver, and the Bay Area. You may have recently seen Mr. Siguenza and the members of Culture Clash in their latest production, Culture Clash (Still) in America at Berkeley Repertory Theatre (video below). Since 2016, Mr. Siguenza has been the recipient of The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation’s National Playwright Residency Program, twice over, which fosters the creation and production of theatrically ambitious plays that lend themselves to more effective engagement with audiences and communities, supporting his Playwright in Residence at San Diego Repertory.
