Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

We are rewriting the script, stage by stage, story by story.

As an arts organization, we acknowledge that our company, as well as the greater arts community, has much work to be done with regard to inclusion of BIPOC artists. As artists we have a unique responsibility to open conversations within our society that have the potential to create lasting and needed change.

Our mission has always been to produce work that gives voice to those too often silenced; we realize now that we have fallen short. It is time for us to alter our policies, transform our company, and create a safe space for all artists and audiences.

Our Commitments to Change

The following commitments are our starting point towards meaningful inclusivity. This is a living document—constantly evolving as we learn and grow.

Amplifying Voices and Representation

  • Continuously amplify the voices of People of Color through our artistic work

  • Strive for diverse casting that genuinely represents our community

  • Promote and center the stories of BIPOC artists and creators

Structural Transformation

  • Implement an open forum for BIPOC artists to share perspectives and drive our collective growth

  • Actively work to increase BIPOC representation on our staff and board

  • Revise all policies and procedures through an anti-racism lens

Creating Safe, Inclusive Spaces

  • Maintain a zero-tolerance policy against discrimination, harassment, and oppression

  • The Stage holds space for the necessary conversations surrounding injustice to further build and strengthen our community

  • Provide tools and resources for continuous learning and growth

Accountability and Growth

  • Regularly assess and update our commitments

  • Remain open to feedback and external perspectives

  • The Stage will continue to uphold our safe work-space and implement our zero-tolerance policy against discrimination, harassment, and oppression.  Taking action when necessary.

  • The Stage will continue to share the tools necessary for growth and learning with our audience.
